Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is PrepCompass?
PrepCompass is an AI-assisted household preparedness platform that helps you build a personalized emergency plan, understand your risks, and take practical steps to improve your readiness over time.
It combines your household information, local risk data, and a structured preparedness methodology to guide you—step by step.
Who is PrepCompass for?
PrepCompass is designed for households—families, individuals, renters, and homeowners—who want a clear and practical way to get prepared without feeling overwhelmed.
It can also support employers, community groups, and organizations looking to strengthen resilience through household preparedness.
How is PrepCompass different from a preparedness checklist?
Most checklists are static and one-size-fits-all. PrepCompass adapts to your household by considering: who lives with you; your location and local risks; what supplies and plans you already have.
It then provides personalized recommendations and “next best actions” that evolve as your preparedness improves.
How does PrepCompass work?
In a few guided steps, you: (1) answer short questions about your household and current preparedness; (2) generate a personalized plan; (3) receive recommended next steps across supplies, skills, planning, and coordination; (4) continue improving over time with updated guidance.
How long does it take to get started?
Most households can generate an initial plan in about 15–20 minutes. From there, you can improve your preparedness gradually, one step at a time.
What hazards does PrepCompass cover?
PrepCompass supports preparedness for a range of common hazards, including: power outages, severe weather, wildfires, earthquakes, and flooding. Recommendations are tailored based on your location and household profile.
Do I need to download an app?
No. PrepCompass is web-based and works on phones, tablets, and computers.
Can I update my plan as my household changes?
Yes. Your plan is designed to evolve with your household. You can update household members, contacts, supplies, and rally points. PrepCompass will adjust your recommendations as your situation changes.
Guidance, Practice, and Learning
What is Guided Practice?
Guided Practice includes short, household-friendly scenarios designed to help you think through and practice real-life situations—like communication breakdowns or extended outages. These are designed to build confidence and improve decision-making over time.
What are Preparedness Insights?
Preparedness Insights highlight lessons from real-world events and show how similar situations could impact a household like yours. They help you learn what matters—without having to sift through long reports.
How much time do I need to commit?
No set amount—PrepCompass is designed to be flexible. You can engage as much or as little as you want. As you learn or make changes, you can update your self-assessment to reflect your current level of preparedness.
Supplies and Recommendations
Will PrepCompass recommend supplies?
PrepCompass may recommend supplies based on your household, risks, and current inventory. These suggestions are meant to help you identify gaps and build preparedness over time—not all at once.
Does PrepCompass sell supplies?
PrepCompass does not operate as a store. We may provide optional links or suggestions to help you find recommended items, but you are always in control of what you purchase and where you purchase it.
Are recommendations influenced by advertisers?
No. Recommendations are based on your household needs and preparedness goals—not third-party advertising.
Privacy, Safety, and Trust
How is my information used?
Your information is used to generate your personalized plan and recommendations. We do not sell your personal household data or use it for third-party advertising.
Is my household data shared?
No. Your household data is used only to provide your experience within PrepCompass.
What does my employer see?
If PrepCompass is offered through an employer or organization, your personal household data remains private. Organizations may receive aggregated, non-identifiable insights—but not individual household information.
Is PrepCompass for use during an emergency?
No. PrepCompass is a preparedness planning tool. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.
Can PrepCompass guarantee I’ll be prepared?
No. PrepCompass provides guidance based on your inputs and established preparedness practices, but it cannot guarantee outcomes. You are responsible for evaluating and applying recommendations based on your situation.
Will my plan and recommendations change over time?
Yes. As you update your information—or as PrepCompass improves its methods—your assessments and recommendations may change. These changes reflect improvements in the system, not necessarily a decline in your preparedness.
Pricing and Access
Is there a free plan?
PrepCompass offers a free plan to generate your initial preparedness plan. Additional features and ongoing guidance may be available through paid subscriptions (such as monthly or annual plans).
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Access continues through the end of your billing period.
Do you offer group or employer plans?
Yes. PrepCompass supports group offerings for employers, communities, and organizations. These can include access to the platform and high-level insights while maintaining household privacy.
